Definitive Technology has announced the Studio Slim, its first high performance soundbar with Chromecast Built-in.

The 3.1 system adopts a slimline designer style and incorporates seven speaker drivers, for a left/centre/right array, each driven by its own amplifier module.

A trio of 25mm aluminum dome tweeters sit alongside four 76mm mid-range woofers.

The partnering wireless subwoofer sports an eight-inch drivers for deep bass.

With Chromecast, users can stream music, movies, news and podcasts from compatible apps, control supported smart home devices, and invoke the Google Assistant.

Voice commands can be used to control music via a connected Google Home-enabled speaker or mobile device.

The Studio Slim can also work as part of a whole home Chromecast audio system.

A one-button EQ offers presets for Movies, Music and Night optimisation.

Movie mode widens the sound stage and heightens dialogue and effects, while Music mode focuses the imaging and simplifies processing.

Night mode tailors overall output and bass response for more subdued late-night viewing.

There’s also an adjustable center channel level, which can be used to lift dialogue in the mix to improve intelligibility, if required.

However, there’s no compatibility with 3D audio formats, such as Dolby Atmos or DTS:X, and HDMI is limited to a single ARC connection.

The soundbar adopts a sophisticated look, with brushed dark-aluminum top panel.

Just 44mm high, the look is decidedly minimalist, and should fit below the bezel of most TVs.

Local release date and pricing still to be confirmed.
