Bose has rejected allegations that it has displayed “wholesale disregard” for customer privacy by collecting data through its app.

A class action lawsuit filed last week accused Bose of sending information about music played through the Bose Connect App to third parties.

In a statement on its website after the allegations surfaced, Bose said it did not “wiretap” communications or sell information, or use any data to identify users by name.

“Nothing is more important to us than your trust. We work tirelessly to earn and keep it, and have for over 50 years. That’s never changed, and never will. In the Bose Connect App, we don’t wiretap your communications, we don’t sell your information, and we don’t use anything we collect to identify you — or anyone else — by name,” the statement reads.

Bose say they “understand the nature of class action lawsuits” and that they intend to “fight the inflammatory, misleading allegations made against us through the legal system.”

The company later disclosed that users of the Connect App, a companion app to Bose headphones and speakers, collected “standard things” to improve customer experience and product quality, but stressed that using the Connect App was not required.
